Opaque_tights, white_matte_tights, the image is a vertical realistic photograph of a young woman seated on a low wooden stool in a bright, sparsely furnished room, in a pale palette of white, light grey and warm skin. The fabric runs unbroken from her waist over both feet as far as the tips of the toes. Behind her a plain off-white wall, likely painted plaster, fills the upper half of the frame, near-white on the far right and falling away to a soft pale grey toward the upper-left corner. Across the bottom of the frame, pale grey oak floorboards run from one lower corner to the other, their grain reading as fine, faintly darker lines. In the centre of the frame she sits sideways on the stool, turned three-quarters toward the left of the camera. Her right leg is folded under her, the unshod foot resting flat on the boards at the lower right of the frame. Her left leg is lifted instead and stretched out toward the left side of the frame, held almost straight. That raised foot hangs in the air near the left edge of the frame, unshod, level with her knee and well clear of the boards. On that raised foot the five toes are held softly apart, each one reading as a rounded shape of its own beneath the taut surface. Her left arm reaches back and braces on the seat of the stool behind her hip, fingers spread against the wood. Her right hand rests open on the thigh of the folded leg, the thumb hooked lightly over its edge. Her head is tipped down and turned toward the raised foot, so her gaze travels along the lifted leg toward the lower left of the frame. Straight dark brown hair falls past her shoulders with a fringe across the forehead, and a faint relaxed smile rests on her lips. On her upper body she wears a loose pale blue-grey cotton shirt with fine white stripes, its sleeves rolled back above the elbows. Around her waist a short pleated skirt of light grey woven fabric covers the tops of her thighs, its hem riding a little higher on the lifted side. Along the far right edge of the frame the window stands bare, its frame and the bright sky beyond it square to the lens. The lighting is hard, low-angled daylight that comes in through that window from the right of the frame, close to level with her shoulder. It lays bright, hard-edged highlights along the top of her hair, the shoulder of her shirt and the outer line of both legs. The stool and the folded foot throw crisp shadows to the left across the boards, and the far side of her body keeps a clear line between lit and unlit. The overall composition is calm and gently diagonal, held together by a restrained pale palette of white, light grey and warm skin.
