Ultra-realistic cinematic Norse pagan folk horror still inspired by the ancient Scandinavian legend of the draugen, the drowned dead.

A remote Viking Age Scandinavian coastal settlement during a violent storm at night.

A small cluster of historically grounded Viking Age wooden houses stands along a dark rocky shoreline. The buildings have timber walls, turf roofs and simple wooden structures. A few distant oil lamps and dying torches glow faintly through the rain.

Beyond the settlement lies a vast dark northern sea.

Huge waves crash against jagged coastal rocks while heavy rain and sea spray fill the air.

At the edge of the water stands an enormous drowned humanoid figure.

The Draugen has the recognizable form of a dead Scandinavian man, but his body is unnaturally tall, broad and heavy.

His skin is extremely pale, grayish and waterlogged, with realistic cold skin texture and subtle signs of prolonged immersion in the sea.

His long wet hair hangs heavily around his face and shoulders.

A thick soaked beard clings to his jaw.

His ancient Viking Age clothing is completely saturated with seawater: heavy dark wool, worn leather straps and remnants of old clothing cling tightly to his body.

Seaweed and small pieces of marine vegetation are tangled naturally in his hair and clothing.

Water continuously drips from his body onto the rocks beneath him.

His bare feet stand partially submerged in the shallow water.

His face is almost completely expressionless.

His eyes are dark, exhausted and unnaturally still.

His mouth hangs slightly open as though he is silently breathing despite having returned from the sea.

He looks directly toward the distant settlement.

The waves around him are violently crashing, yet the water immediately surrounding his body is strangely calm.

A faint mist hangs over the surface of the sea.

In the background, several tiny human silhouettes stand near the wooden houses, watching the figure from a great distance.

They are barely visible through the rain.

The Draugen remains completely motionless despite the storm.

Lightning briefly illuminates the sea and reveals the enormous scale of the figure.

Ancient wooden fishing boats are pulled up onto the shoreline near the settlement.

Wet rocks, seaweed, driftwood and pools of seawater cover the foreground.

Lighting: cold blue-gray storm light, occasional distant lightning, faint warm torchlight from the Viking settlement, deep shadows and wet reflective surfaces.

Photorealistic Norwegian coastline, historically grounded Viking Age settlement, realistic human anatomy, extremely detailed wet skin, soaked wool and leather, realistic seawater and rain, natural seaweed, cinematic 35mm photography, subtle film grain, realistic storm atmosphere and atmospheric depth.

The Draugen should feel like an ancient drowned human being that has returned from the sea, physically present and terrifyingly real.

Mood: ancient Norse pagan horror, drowned dead, hostile northern sea, supernatural maritime folklore, isolation, storm, primordial dread.
